8/28/2014 | Seeing is Believing: New Video Shows Clear Benefits of the Latest Thomson PC-Series Electric Linear Actuators

28.08.2014, WOOD DALE, IL – Thomson Industries, Inc., a leading manufacturer of mechanical motion control solutions, has released a video introducing the new PC-Series precision electric linear actuators for continuous duty applications, optimized to help design engineers convert from pneumatic to electric linear actuation.

The new Thomson video illustrates the greater power density of these units compared with equivalent force pneumatic actuators and explains how electric actuation gives more precise control of velocity and position with substantially lower assembly and energy costs.

James Marek, Director of New Product Development for Thomson, who is featured in the video says, “Market research into pneumatic to electric conversion told us that our customers want an actuator that is easy to use, compact and made to last. And that’s what we’ve developed in the new PC-Series.” The video shows the PC-Series’ smooth exterior design, ideal for easy wash down. Internal construction details are revealed, including the use of corrosive resistant materials and IP65 sealing throughout to make it ideal for hygienic applications like those found in food and beverage industries. Using the PC40 as an example, Marek also shows the significantly larger screw size, which offers four times more travel time at 750N than typical electromechanical alternatives.

The video goes on to demonstrate the surprising ease and speed of attaching a motor to the new PC-Series actuator in side-by-side timed comparison with an alternative, industry standard electromechanical unit. Using the Thomson RediMount? system, the PC-Series has a fast, three-step motor mounting process with IP65 sealing all the way to the motor, no risk of misalignment and no radial load on the motor shaft.

This new video is available now at http://goo.gl/QWiyLu. It demonstrates how the new PC-Series electromechanical actuators give machine builders a new way to convert from pneumatic to electric actuation and thereby enable more compact designs, improve reliability and extend travel life.

Thomson strives to continually innovate and lead the marketplace in linear motion solutions and also share their expert application engineering and technical expertise. To that end, Thomson has authored a wide range of educational videos, webinars and technical white papers available now at thomsonlinear.com to inform and guide design engineers, explain technology alternatives and simplify the linear motion component selection process.
